The Victorian State Election is scheduled for November 28th, 2026. Victoria has been the origin of a number of laws and policies that have undermined religious freedom, so this election will be a significant not only for the state but the whole nation.
Current Issues
Voluntary Assisted Dying
A significant amendment in the Voluntary Assisted Dying Amendment (Equity and Access) Bill 2024 proposes removing a health practitioner’s right to conscientiously object to providing information about voluntary assisted dying (VAD).
Inquiry into Cults
The Victorian Government has announced an inquiry into cults, coercive control, and high-demand groups which has potential to prevent truly harmful practices, but also may pose serious risks to religious freedom if not carefully scoped and defined.
Victorian Election
The Victorian State Election is scheduled for November 28th, 2026. Freedom for Faith is working with churches and faith groups to make religious freedom an election issue, and demonstrate the number of voters concerned about it.
Education Policies and Parental Rights
Victorian Government education policies are increasingly limiting the space for religious beliefs in education. This includes shifting SRI out of school hours, curriculum changes, and threats to faith-based schools.
Anti-Vilification Legislation
The Justice Legislation Amendment (Anti-vilification and Social Cohesion) Act 2025 expands protections against hate speech in Victoria but has raised concerns about religious freedom.
